Yacht market activity
When we compare the Dutch-built yacht market trends of the first quarter (Q1) of 2024 to 2025, we can see that the amount of sales and new listings have decreased in those first three months. The number of sales has dropped from 24 to 22 between Q1 of 2024 and 2025, a decrease of 8,3%. The number of new listings declined from 44 to 42, 4,8%. The number of price changes however was 77 in Q1 of 2025, which is an increase of 16,7% compared to the 66 price changes in Q1 of 2024.
After a quite successful last quarter (Q4) in 2024, the first quarter of 2025 saw a larger difference in the amount of sales. There was a significant decrease in sales of 37,1% (from 35 to 22 sales) compared to Q4 of 2024. On the other hand, the number of yachts entering the market grew from 29 to 40, an impressive increase of 37,9%. The number of price changes also saw an increase of 37,5% (from 56 to 77) in Q1 of 2025.
Total yachts offered for sale
In Q1 of 2025 there were 5% more yachts offered for sale compared to Q1 of 2024, with the average in 2024 being 327 and the average in 2025 being 343 Dutch-built yachts for sale. The largest difference in the number of yachts for sale was found in January, with a difference of 6%. The amount of yachts offered for sale is steadily growing each month.
Looking at the difference of yachts offered for sale of Q4 of 2024 and Q1 of 2025, we can see that there was a slight decline of 1%. The average number of yachts offered for sale in Q4 of 2024 was 347 and the average in Q1 of 2025 was 343. The number of yachts for sale started to decline in November 2024 and increased again in February 2025 (and has been steadily increasing since then).
Yacht sales
Considering the decrease in yacht sales between Q1 of 2024 and 2025, it is interesting to take a closer look to the different length and launch year segments of the sold yachts in these periods. In both periods approximately 80% of the sold yachts were motor yachts.
The yachts with a length between 18 and 24 meters and 60 and 70 meters experienced the largest decline in sales of respectively 50% and 67%. Yachts built between 30 and 40 meters saw the largest increase in sales of 200%.
Looking at the yacht sales divided by launch year, we can see a huge increase of respectively 75% and 200% of the yachts launched between 2000 and 2010 and the new-built yachts. The yachts launched between 2010 and 2024 however saw a decrease in sales of 67%.
When comparing the yacht sales in Q1 of 2025 with the sales in Q4 of 2024, we can see that in Q4 of 2024 approximately 74% of the sold yachts were motor yachts compared to the 81% in Q1 of 2025.
There was an overall decrease in sales in all yacht length segments, with the largest declines occurring in the yachts built between 24 and 30 meters and 50 and 60 meters of respectively 57% and 67%. On the other hand, the yachts built between 40 and 50 meters and larger than 70 meters saw increases in sales of respectively 67% and 100%.
The same trend can be seen in the different segments of launch year. The yachts launched between 1970 and 1990 and between 2010 and 2024 saw the largest decline in yacht sales of respectively 70% and 60%. The only segment with an increase in sales were the new-built yachts with an increase of 300%.
Total value of yacht sales
Another consequence of the drop in sales in Q1 of 2025 is that the total value of yacht sales (based on the last known asking prices of the sold yachts) decreased by a significant 15,3% from € 247.795.271in Q1 of 2024 to € 209.854.894 in 2025.
Similarly, the total value of sales decreased by 35,5% compared to the amount of €325.260.653 in yachts sales in Q4 of 2024.
In conclusion, the first quarter of 2025 showed a noticeable decline in market activity for Dutch-built yachts compared to the same period in 2024. The number of sales and yachts entering the market both decreased. Just the total number of yachts offered for sale and the number of price changes increased. The challenging market climate resulted in a decrease in sales value of 15,3% in Q1 of 2025 as opposed to 2024.
There was also a decrease in the number of sales compared to Q4 of 2024. However, there was an increase in yachts entering the market and price changes. The number of yachts offered for sale has stayed the same, but saw a steady increase in the first 3 months of this year, indicating a higher inventory available to buyers as well as a more dynamic pricing environment in 2025.
